ABOUT US
About Hariara Institute
The Hariara Institute is committed to environmental conservation and education in the Lake Toba region. Our name “Hariara” comes from the Toba Batak language, representing a sacred tree Ficus drupacea which holds profound cultural and philosophical meaning for the Batak people. Each part of the tree reflects key values: its leaves offer protection, the stem represents blessings and good fortune, while the roots signify unity between people and the natural world. The Hariara tree symbolizes prosperity and balance, much like the Institute’s mission to foster harmony between nature and humanity.

Our vision is to be a source of blessing for many communities in the fields of social welfare, da’wah (Islamic outreach), health, education, and to create a community with strong faith and economic stability.
